Taking Definite Steps

Given that the Menaul Historical Library has been planning for several years  to secure a better location for the library; it would be an understatement to express the excitement taking place at the library these days.

This is due to the many levels of progress that is taking place in regard to the relocation of our current Library to Allison Hall. We have gone from brainstorming the idea, to discovering that Allison Hall owned by Menaul School may be available, to taking the definite steps to secure its use.

We know the building will require extensive renovations and we began to evaluate and determine how the library would approach the expense.  Having done an assessment of our collection and the need to address how we would step forward to protect it, would be a priority.

After being provided a floor plan by our architect that represented all the needs of the library we began to proceed.

The needs were identified as follows:

  • The roof would have to be replaced.
  • A new HVAC system for the building with emphasis on a climate control    Archive Room.
  • Updating the Electrical System
  • Interior Renovations
  • Floors
  • Windows and Doors
  • Security System

Currently the roof has been replaced and we are approaching the selection of contractors for the HVAC system and windows and doors.  While that is being done we are addressing the electrical system and determining what will be necessary to update the electrical system needs for the library.

We have been able to begin with renovations of Allison Hall due to the generosity of many Menaul Historical Library donor friends. We estimated the cost of the renovation would be $1,000.000, of which $440,000 has already been raised since this vision began.

In order to raise the remaining funds, the library Advisory Board has created the Preserving History Fund Committee. This Committee is comprised of members with considerable Campaign Funding experience, community leaders, and Board members.  As a result of this committee the following projects are in completion or in the process of becoming the tools needed to get this renovation completed.

*The Albuquerque Journal had an article on the library in October providing history of the library and the future plans to relocate the library to Allison Hall, on the Menaul Campus.

*KRQE Channel 13 is preparing to broadcast an additional story on their morning program within the week.

We have committee members working with the State and County

Government to determine availability of funds for non-profit libraries.

Our Facebook page is currently under construction, but we will be accepting donations on Giving Tuesday on our web page.

My message today….a donation from you to the Historical library is an opportunity for you to step up and join the efforts of preserving our collection; which represents church history and the history of our state.  In addition to your support we can open our doors in the future to more scholars, researchers, authors and remember we are open to the public.
